Capt. Mark has been sailing for 28 years and avidly for the last 12. He sails as much as he can in his Pearson 26 on the Hudson River as a member of Chelsea Yacht Club, and competes regularly as a crew member of a J92. He loves sails well set and blue water, and can't wait for the winds of the Mediterranean and the roasted octopus of Greece.
Sue wonders how she will handle being out of sight of land! An avid outdoorswoman, she loves hiking with her two dogs and gardening. She loves the fresh air, and has spent many days sailing with Mark on the Hudson, so she is not new to sailing. She is looking forward to experiencing the cultures, sights and sounds and foods of Greece... She hopes to explore new places, quaint towns, and some ancient ruins!
You will notice that in this picture Becky is not outdoors and the natural scenery is viewed through a window. This is a typical pose and it points out that she is the landlubber of our crew. She is sitting indoors, at a desk and computer, surrounded by books. While she likes to be out in nature, she doesn't like to work at it! This cruise will be an entirely new experience for her. She has been on a lot of different kinds of boats, but never in a small sailing vessel and never in close quarters with three other people for two weeks. Yes, she is an only child. That said, she is looking forward to our trip and anticipating the beauty of Greece, the profound sense of history in the islands, the friendliness of the Greek people, and (if she can just get away from these three bozos for a few minutes) the splendid isolation of silent, sun-drenched olive groves and hilltop monasteries. She anticipates she will do a lot of dishes on this trip.
Bernice's adventures tend to be more in the kitchen than outdoors - at least that is where she finds she spends a lot of her time when she is home. On this trip, however, she may assume the role of first mate: tending the sails and lowering the anchor. That should be worrisome for Captain Mark except for the fact that while Bernice doesn't have tons of experience (though she has sailed with Captain Mark on two fabulous sailing vacations in the Caribbean), she follows directions pretty well. Bernice is looking forward to being out on the water, having time to chat with good friends, and eating great food -- especially seafood!! Where can you get the best roasted octopus??? You will need to read the blog to find out.
Bernice is also the one setting up this blog, however she has made one tiiiiiiny error: she made another editor to the site. And so "the editors", failing to produce substantive change in previously entered comments describing Bernice's sailing ability in an unflattering manner, offer the following, slightly revised, content:
Bernice is a well-known lover of adventure. Able to create fabulous meals in a pitching and rolling galley, and well-trained from previous sailing adventures with Capt. Mark in the Caribbean, she is ready to assume the role of first mate on this new adventure. Bernice is looking forward to being out on the water, having time to chat with good friends, and eating great food -- especially seafood!! Where can you get the best roasted octopus??? You will need to read the blog to find out.

And as further evidence to the assertions of the previous paragraph, we offer these further photos. Photo 1: does this woman look like a sailor, or what?
And photo 2: if you answered the previous question with the word "What", we offer this further proof: Bernice most definitely knows how to drink rum. Now that's a sailor. The only question remains: do Greek sailors drink rum, Ouzo, or Retsina? Follow the blog to find out.
